Representatividade. Essa é uma das palavras que mais tem feito parte da minha vida ultimamente.
Quando eu era adolescente, isso nem faz tanto tempo assim, eu lia essas revistas que eram destinadas a garotas da minha idade, e eu não me sentia representada. Claro que com 14 anos eu não tinha essa noção. Eu não tinha claro que faltava alguma coisa para mim. A sorte é que eu sempre tive uma família muito bem engajada nas causas raciais e sociais, e sempre foram importantes nesse processo de construção de autoestima. Mas mesmo assim, não posso dizer que eu sempre fui muito bem resolvida comigo mesma. Mas por conta da minha família consegui não ter um auto-ódio tão grande.
Voltando às revistas adolescentes. Na época, como uma boa leitora e assinante, não me encontrava em nenhuma das paginas. Mesmo assim não conseguia parar de ler. Muitas vezes, numa tentativa meio frustrada, tentava ser igual as meninas dos editoriais. Tudo isso, junto a várias outras coisas que eu passei durante esse período, só aumentaram a minha insegurança.
Eu fico me perguntando: não existe uma editora ou diretora de revista que não pensa que “Ei, nós podemos ter algumas leitoras negras, devemos escrever para elas também”? Porque sinceramente, não é possível. É uma exclusão descarada, falta muita representatividade negra em revistas.
Reportagens do tipo “Como ter o liso perfeito”, “como arrasar naquela make para balada”, “como atrair o boy/crush que você está de olho”. Matérias como essas, que pareciam inocentes à principio, deixam bem claro que não era para mim que elas escrevem. Eu, mulher negra 4C, nunca vou ter o tal do “liso perfeito”. As makes que eles ensinam são só produções que ficam boas em meninas brancas. Ou seja, não era pro meu bico. Em relação ao “crush”, eu me lembro de uma vez que uma das dicas “para atrair o boy” envolvia jogar o cabelo, “amarrar o cabelo com o lápis” pois “os garotos amam esse jeito despojado”.

Tem que rir pra não chorar, pois um lápis nunca vai amarrar meu cabelo. Isso sem contar quando o editorial não vinha com depoimentos sobre o tipo de menina que os caras curtiam, e bem, eu nunca me encaixava nas definições. Em pequenas reportagens “inocentes”, minha insegurança aumentava. Minha autoestima era destruída pelo menos um pouquinho.
Eu já perdi a conta de quantas vezes em comentários, ou em e-mails direcionados às diretoras ou editoras de algumas revistas eu já reivindiquei o direito de me sentir representada, e já perdi a conta de quantas vezes eu, nós meninas/mulheres negras, fomos ignoradas. Ainda assim, acredito que tenho o direito de me sentir representada. Representatividade importa pra caramba, porque eu enquanto mulher negra sei como foi importante e ainda significa muito para mim. E vou continuar lutando por isso.
